England beat Australia in Melbourne to retain The Ashes.
Fourth Ashes Test, Melbourne (day four):
England 513 beat Australia 98 & 258 by an innings and 157 runs
The above says it all: "a knockout read"...don't you think?
This New Year is going to be great and I have a good feeling about 2011.
Wishing everyone a marvellous New Year and all the very best for the coming year!
Well done those boys!
What does 2011 bode for you? What plans do you have up your sleeve? Spill the beans...go on!

Lots of smiles here in New Zealand!
Yes - A great win - made even sweeter for me because my brother (emigrated to Australia 30 years ago)turned native and avidly supports Down Under. We exchange cryptic emails and I seem to have got the upper hand as James has not even skyped me!!
Great victory.
Bonne Année!
Wonderful!
What can they do to go one better?
Stuff the buggers in Sydney, too!
Happy New Year!
Hope you had a great Christmas. I've got zero plans made for 2011 although I did manage a dip in the sea on Christmas Day!
You have already seen my list! It was a great win wasn't it - it made getting up early for work today a lot more bearable.
After 2010 was so eventful I just would like 2011 to go peacefully by... no more packing/unpacking.. moving, stress, new jobs * 2, new dog, new home, new cooker and never used gas before.. just want wall to wall sunshine and time to spend on the beach this year.. was truly gobsmacked by the England cricket team... not a great lover of cricket but well done boys!!
I'm a patriotic person and do like to cheer on any England/GB team, however, I have been subjected to this bloody cricket series morning, noon and night - and by night I mean ALL night. Live, highlights and news bulletins.
To be honest, cricket isn't my 'bag'. Hubby says he is going to 'treat' me to a trip to Australia one day to see a test match. Oh deep joy!
In 2011 I am going to get out and about in the country, see new places in the UK and do things I haven't done before.
Happy New Year!
Thank you everybody. I've got limited internet connection today so I'll be brief here and pop across to yours to say: "Happy New Year!" Lovely to hear from you all. :) Hxx
It's exciting stuff. My boys have been full of it. I usually feel sorry for the losing side but haven't this year- I don't like Ponting.
Yes...Ponting has been a bit of a bad sport hasn't he? Happy New Year, Jo, let's raise the champagne glasses for all of us! ;) Hxx
Decisions, decisions...is it going to be Jools Holland's Hootenanny or Father Ted? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
Haven't watched cricket in years, not a major sport here in Canada.
I am glad you have a great feeling about 2011. It will be a busy time for us, what with renovating, mind you that's an ongoing job, and dd wedding. So I too am looking forward to see what the years brings forth.
A Happy New Year to you and your family,
Gill
I don't understand anything about cricket but it is really good to know that England did so well.
Happy New Year.

Happy New Year Gill and Maggie! All the very best to you and yours. :)
I'm not a cricket fan but I'm always pleased to have something to tease my Aussie friends about. 2011 has bought a new blog. It's at www.therivercottagediaries.blogspot.com so hope to see you over there
Oh, and Happy New Year!
I've just had a very pleasant afternoon and early evening watching the 5th Ashes Test on tv - England are ticking along very nicely!
Couldn't agree more with your sentiment (as I enjoy a great batting day in the final test). Here's to a 3-1 Series Win, and then to keeping the Ashes again in 2013!!
Wishing you and your family all the best for the coming year.
Hello PVLiF, Mickle and Catharine! Happy New Year!
